Since my students are still young first graders learning basic writing and spelling skills, I decided it was necessary for my students to write their book with paper and pencil. They would eventually have a chance to present their written book online, but I felt it was necessary for them to practice writing. The students used their note sheets from the previous day to create a book about their animal. They wrote and illustrated pages about the animal's appearance, diet, habitat, and interesting facts.
(See Day Two for a copy of the written book template.)
After students were finished their written books, I offered them the choice of presenting their books through Wixie. They were given two different ways of presenting their books.
Option #1: Take photos of each page of the book. Each new page on Wixie would be a different photo of their book. They could record themselves reading that page of the book.
Option #2: Use stickers and paint tools in Wixie to create a new "ebook" about their animal. The pages and topics remained the same (appearance, diet, habitat and interesting facts), but the students could create new pictures for each page and type their sentences. They also then recorded their voice reading the sentence on that page.
